Baudelaire
At
Baudelaire, we’ve always been fascinated by the real thing:
authentic regional soaps and body-care products from small,
out-of-the way places; the kind of companies that are local
legends, but little known to the rest of the world; the kind
of businesses that tend to be, like ours, family owned.
Since
we started Baudelaire in 1987, we've imported from all sorts
of countries on four different continents: England, Ireland,
Holland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Romania, Canada, Mexico,
Brazil, the Philippines, China and even the mysterious foreign
country of Florida.
In
the process, we’ve learned a lot: about ingredients, formulas,
and the people who do the alchemy that transforms them into
products that make people say: “I've never used a bar of soap
that (pick one or more) smelled so good, lasted so long, lathered
this well."
Products
like this aren't developed overnight. And you don't find them
on a single trip to Europe, let alone by sitting in an office
somewhere in corporate America. By insisting on a high level
of authenticity and care from our overseas partners - and
ourselves - we've carved our own unique niche in the marketplace.
For
example, Stephane LaCaille and our other key French connection,
Bernard Chevilliat, are both master savonniers (soapmakers).
Over the last ten years, we've worked with Stephane to build
Provence
Santé into one of the most popular imported lines of soap
and body care in America today - and to explore new subtleties
of fragrance and formulae in the development of Jardin
de l'Olivier, an elegant line created with pure organic
olive oil from Spain.
At
the same time, Bernard has helped us introduce to America
the authentic roots of European herbalism through the unique
formulations of Essence
soaps, lotions, massage oils, bath foams, and foot care -
all of which feature natural ingredients such as traditional
herbs and flowers, French white and green clay, and seaweed
from the coast of Normandy.
We
can't guarantee that you'll like a particular item...after
all, perhaps nothing is as subjective as fragrance. But we
can guarantee that every product you purchase, or receive
as a gift, will represent the finest traditions of formulating,
fragrancing ...and family business.
